GKL Round 7 - GYG, Wales

Nathan Ampofo-Anim reigns in the rain at GYG in Wales!

Round 7 of the Global Karting League championship was a flawless event organised by GKL:UK. 

Sienna, Aaron, Babarcar and Nathan were all present from the DBU Driver Academy. Saturday brought sunny and dry weather to Wales and in practice Aaron lit up the times in these dry conditions. 

On Sunday, there was changeable weather in the morning for practice and qualifying. We witnessed mixed conditions present challenges for the drivers having practiced in drier conditions the day before. 

Nathan qualified 8th and remained in the same position in the pre-final. Aaron qualified 9th and ended up 4th in the pre-final, Sienna and Barbacar qualified 11th and 15th respectively and swapped positions in the pre-final.

During the final, the heavens opened and saw Nathan saving a spin on the first corner of lap - a superb demonstration of his driving skills in wet conditions on slicks. He ended up finishing 6th on the grid. 

Babacar managed to hold his position in the beginning of the race and gained one position and finished 10th. 

Sienna, with an initial spin, managed to gain a position and finish 14th. Aaron span and beached his kart in the penultimate corner of lap one which took him to the back of the grid. 

An overall good performance by the drivers in changeable and trickly conditions on slick tyres. As the championship draws to an end, let’s look out for the top 10 finishers at the end of the season.
